FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Types of Projects Do You Specialize in?
I specialize in custom residential projects for one- and two families.  I design new homes, additions and home remodels.  I work with homeowners on projects ranging from one-time consultations to full architectural services.

Are you Licensed?
I am licensed to practice architecture in the state of Wisconsin.

How Large Is Your Firm?
I am a sole practitioner and handle every aspect of every project myself.

Which Geographic Areas Do You Serve?
I do projects in south-central and southwest Wisconsin, including the following cities:  Madison, Middleton, Verona, Fitchburg, Monona, Sun Prairie, Mount Horeb, Oregon, DeForest, Cottage Grove, Viroqua, Richland Center, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Platteville, Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, Baraboo, Wisconsin Dells, Reedsburg, and Waunakee.

What Is Your Background in Architecture?
I learned architecture as an apprentice at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture (FLWSA), based at Taliesin in Spring Green, Wisconsin and at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, learning from architects and others who worked with Frank Lloyd Wright.  I had the awesome privilege to live at Taliesin and Taliesin West for eight years.  I graduated with a Masters Degree in Architecture from FLWSA in 1996 and have had my own architectural practice since 2000.

I am inspired by organic architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and by the writings of Sarah Susanka in her "Not So Big House" book series, as well as the philosophy of Christopher Alexander as described in his books "A Pattern Language" and "The Timeless Way of Building".  I do not practice in a particular style;  rather each project is shaped by the stylistic preferences of the client and the characteristics of their building site.

How Do You Charge For Your Services?
I typically charge clients for my work by the hour.  Once I know the size, scope and complexity of your project, I can estimate my fee based on similar projects that I've done in the past.
