DESIGN PHILOSOPHY |
SUGGESTED RESOURCES RELATED TO DESIGN |
I design buildings from the inside out, letting the interior spaces shape the building facade, rather than vice versa. I find that pleasing spaces are created by a well-organized plan, logical spatial flow, good room proportions, a connection to the outdoors and outdoor spaces, and abundant natural light. I work hard to understand clients’ needs in order to avoid unnecessary space, so that money can be spent on better quality rather than more quantity.
I believe that it’s best to work with the forces of nature when possible, utilizing the sun and the wind to heat and cool a building naturally. When it makes sense for a particular project, I orient and design buildings to take advantage of those resources. I try to design buildings in a way that minimizes their negative impact on the environment, in a way that fits the values and budgets of my clients. My inspirations include the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and other organic architects, Sarah Susanka and her “Not So Big House” concept, and the ideas of Christopher Alexander. Each building I design is tailored to the needs and desires of the client and the characteristics of their site, making each design unique. Architecture is my passion, and my mission is to help my clients create a more beautiful world. |
