PRAIRIE DU SAC 1840'S STONE HOME
General Contractor: Bill Lenerz Construction, Sauk City, Wisconsin This beautiful stone home was first built in the 1840's and was ready for another update. The owners needed a more functional kitchen and dining space for their young family, as well as a new master bedroom, play room and updated bathrooms. Much of the original character remains after the remodel while giving it more openness and better flow. The original kitchen was poorly laid out, cramped and separated from the rest of the house. The formal dining room was also separated and didn't work with the family's lifestyle. The kitchen and dining area were moved to the other side of the house where they could be open to one another. The living room was moved to what had formerly been the formal dining room, and walls were removed to open it up to the rest of the house. The space where the kitchen had been was remodeled into the master bedroom, and existing stone walls and ceiling joists were exposed in the process. The previous mud room / laundry was replaced with an addition containing both of those functions as well as a new full bathroom. The relocation of the stair made it possible to create a more functional layout upstairs, carving out space for a play area for the children. |
