MULTI LEVEL HOUSE
Designed for a steeply sloping site, this home consists of five levels, connected by a central stairwell, filled with light from a skylight above. The design makes use of changes in ceiling height to define spaces, mark transitions and create drama by contrasting low soffits with areas of higher or sloping ceilings. Clerestory windows in the entertainment room and master bedroom bring light into these rooms from above. Important spaces are connected to nature by walls of windows, in contrast with solid walls which give a feeling of shelter. Throughout the house, glimpses of adjacent spaces serve to create a sense of mystery and draw one forward. |
