The first structure is a small shelter located on the grounds of the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge, one of the top birding spots in North America, is a restored wetland habitat on the south shore of Lake Erie.
The shelter provides a covered picnic area, restrooms, maps and other information about the refuge.
Although modest, it is made special by the arched glulam beams, exposed metal connectors, slatted display boards, textured materials and the rhythm of the evenly-spaced posts supporting the roof.
